The Zambian Ministry of Health run Child Health Weeks at least twice per year to administer vaccinations, distribute Vitamin A supplements and de-worming pills, and record children’s height and weight. These Child Health Weeks also offer the opportunity to deliver targeted health interventions that meet pressing needs such as COVID-19 vaccinations and HIV services.
During the highly publicized Child Health Weeks, the Ministry of Health aims to reach all communities across the entire country to provide free health services to children under five years of age and strengthen the quality of Zambia’s health care system and services.
To achieve this ambitious goal, and reach the hardest to reach communities, the Ministry of Health often request support from trusted partners like On Call Africa. During the most recent Child Health Week, which ran from 19th to 25th June, On Call Africa provided Livingstone and Zimba District Health Offices with vehicles and staff to support their campaigns.
The campaigns focused on: under-5 vaccinations, polio vaccinations, and HPV vaccinations to reach all 13-14 year old girls. With our support both districts were able to exceed their targets.
