On Call Africa are delighted to introduce you to our new CEO, Nkandu Chikonde.
Nkandu is a Chevening scholar and an alumnus of the Australia Awards Africa. With over 14 years of experience in management and leadership, Nkandu has made significant contributions to both local and international non-governmental organizations across Zambia, Malawi, South Africa, Eswatini, and other African countries.
As a management and leadership expert, Nkandu brings extensive knowledge and experience in change management and systems strengthening. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and History from the University of Zambia, a Master’s degree in Management and Leadership from Leeds Beckett University, and a Master of Public Health from the University of Cape Town.
In his career, Nkandu has collaborated with various ministries of health across Africa, academic institutions and private sector players focusing on enhancing leadership and management as critical components for improving health systems and outcomes. His diverse expertise in leading teams, programme management, business development includes roles at Frontline AIDS, the Catholic Agency for Overseas Development (CAFOD), and the Aspen Management Partnership for Health (AMP Health), where he has driven impactful initiatives and fostered collaboration for better health systems.
Outside of his professional commitments, Nkandu enjoys traveling, playing tennis, singing, and reading. As he steps into the role of CEO at On Call Africa, he is eager to lead innovative efforts that further enhance healthcare delivery and access.
Nkandu will be supported by our outgoing CEO, Ben Margetts, during a two-month handover period. We are pleased to have Nkandu and Ben working together during this transition to ensure a smooth handover and provide the organisation with stability.
